For example, you'll have to find your passport and check that it's in date, as well as ensuring that you fulfil the appropriate visa requirements for your chosen destination. And though many people see it as an unnecessary extra expense, it's also essential to book travel insurance before getting on the plane. After all, it's easy to assume that nothing bad will befall you on your trip but as 2010's volcano ash cloud travel crisis showed, anything can happen to disrupt your holiday.

To ensure that your travel insurance is well-priced and fits your needs, here are a few tips to bear in mind. First, search the internet exhaustively to find the best deals on travel cover, rather than purchasing it from your tour operator or airline. Insurance comparison sites have made it much simpler for consumers to locate the most competitive rates on travel insurance, helping save a significant amount of money in the process. However, it's important to not simply opt for the cheapest insurance deal. Instead, compare the rates of reputable providers with well-rated cover options to ensure your cover is of a high quality. Also consider whether it would be more economical to purchase annual cover rather than single trip insurance.

Before purchasing, read the fine print carefully. Does the travel insurance provided meet all your holiday needs? For instance, if you're going on a skiing holiday, remember that many insurers will not include winter sports cover in a standard insurance policy. You will either have to pay an excess sum or look for specialist winter cover, and these policies may still not provide cover for off-piste activities. Often, this rule also applies to any trip with a high risk factor, like extreme sports holidays, and travellers on gap years or extended backpacking trips may also need specialist cover. You'll also need to check whether your preferred travel insurance provider actually provides cover for your chosen destination. Usually, if official government advice recommends against travel to a particular country, insurance policies will not cover holidays to these destinations.

If you're travelling as a couple, with family or in a group, it can sometimes be cheaper to buy your travel insurance altogether as one policy. In particular, insurers may provide discounts for couples travelling with children, though these policies may only cover group travel and not individual holidays. Finally, don't rely solely on comparison sites to find the best deals. Once you've decided which insurer best suits your needs, visit their website or telephone them to see what deals or discounts are available direct. If you have specialist needs - for instance, if you're over 65 years old or you're a frequent business traveller - these insurance providers may be able to offer you bespoke cover options.

Article Source : http://www.goarticles.com/

Seven Eco-Friendly Travel Tips

The environmental impact of taking a vacation can be significant unless you make the effort to determine which companies, brands and activities support sustainable practices. A little common sense and pre-planning can make a big difference in how much your travel plans affect the planet and the community you are visiting. These seven eco-friendly travel tips can help you make only a very small carbon footprint into the world you are exploring.

1. Airlines – Since most travel plans began with airline reservations, consider booking your flight on one of the major airlines that have adopted the"green" initiatives set forth in the EPA's Blue Skyways Collaborative such as Southwest Airlines, Virgin America, Alaska Airlines and American Airlines. These carriers are committed to reducing their carbon emissions, the amount of fuel they use -- even using bio-fuels like coconut oil -- as well as promoting recycled materials for onboard publications and offering natural snacks and beverages.

2. Hotel Chains – Hotel chains across the world have responded to the eco-traveler's desire to have accommodations that foster sustainable practices, and some are even designed to be eco-friendly on the ground up, like the Starwood chain owned by Westin. The Hilton chain has been adopting programs aimed at conservation and recycling, and the Hilton Garden Inn Virginia Beach Town Center is their crowning achievements so far. The Marriott hotel chain has won the EPA's Sustained Excellence Award three years running and even has pillows made of recycled plastic bottles.

3. Luggage – Yet another way to give the planet are helping hand is to select luggage and handbags made of sustainable materials like hemp, bamboo, canvas, recycled materials and nontoxic dyes. You don't have to sacrifice quality or style to have great looking luggage that does not compromise animals or promote harmful harvesting activities. The Sierra Club has put their brand on luggage they consider sustainable, and Eco Traveler offers luggage sets made of hemp that use zero PVCs in their fabrication.

4. Activities – Unfortunately, finding vacation activities that do not compromise the environment can be challenging, because many tourist-related businesses by their very nature inflict some level of damage on the surrounding countryside. Obviously, anything powered by fossil fuel -- such as boats, ATVs, motorcycles or helicopters -- should be avoided as much as possible. Sailing, bicycling, windsurfing, hang gliding, bungee jumping, skateboarding, skiing (both water and snow), diving, swimming and hiking are just a few ways to have a wonderful experience getting to know the countryside you are visiting while leaving nothing behind but foot prints.

5. Dining – Local cuisine can be tempting, but it is always a good idea to do your research and understand what you may be offered to eat and what is entailed in harvesting and serving it. To be on the safe side, become acquainted with local organic grocery stores, farmers markets and vegetarian restaurants that flourish around the world, giving travelers the chance to select healthy, nutritious food. The establishments can also serve as an excellent place to get tips on local dishes, beverages and treats.

6. Gadgets – From solar-powered cell phones to rechargeable batteries, there are many ways to ensure your modern gadgets are not wasting energy just to keep you connected. To keep safe from waterborne germs you could come in contact with while traveling, consider packing along one of those water filter bottles made with recycled natural materials, especially the companies like the Australian-based Frais that offer to support organizations like "Just a Drop Foundation" which works to provide clean water systems in developing countries.

7. Transportation – Eco-friendly companies that offer ground transportation is not as hard to find as you may think, especially since many limousine and shuttle providers are adapting alternative fuels and energy saving tactics. Some destinations even offer rental cars that run on bio-fuels and come complete with coolers and plasticware so travelers will have an alternative to disposable containers for storing food and leftovers. Also look into local pedi-cabs (modern day rickshaws) for getting around crowded parts of major cities, bicycle rentals for touring the immediate area and local public transportation for visiting landmarks.

Read more at Suite101: Seven Eco-Friendly Travel Tips http://www.suite101.com/content/seven-eco-friendly-travel-tips-a290909

Adventure Travel In Peru - Climbing El Misti

Sitting on top of the world, looking down on creation...

I don't remember the rest of the song and we were over 10,000 feet short of the top of the world but it was a pretty good view anyway. Finally, a dream of about two years was completed. I made it to the top of El Misti, the volcano right outside of Arequipa, Peru, that had been calling my name since I first saw it about two years before. I tried to climb it as a day hike then but failed due to a very late start and not being used to the altitude, reaching only about 15, 500 feet. I still think it can be done as a day hike so that is a future goal.

I had been waiting eagerly for my friends Jason and Lisa, SCARAB (Southern California Adventure Racing Buddies) members from Los Angeles, to get to here. We had been communicating by email for months as they were on a round the world trip and we wanted to get together when they came through Peru. Our schedules kept changing but at the last minute they meshed and we were able to meet a couple of times in Arequipa. I arranged the use of a Suzuki 4x4 and Jason and I made plans to climb El Misti on Saturday and Sunday. Lisa decided to relax in Arequipa so we drafted her to be our chauffeur as it is not safe to leave a vehicle at the trailhead. We did some quick shopping, and after getting lost on the way to the trailhead, we arrived safely and were ready to start hiking at 12:30 pm. We were told that it was a five hour climb to the campsite but we were hoping it would be less because that would have meant arriving at camp about the time it got dark. I also realized that we were on a different trail than the one I had attempted two years before so it was a totally new trail to me (there are three routes up to the summit).

We were well matched, my year of living at 8,800 feet and hiking regularly at altitudes of over 12,000 feet made up for my age and Jason's (relative) youth and three weeks of high altitude hiking in Peru made up for his living at sea level in L.A. We followed an easy trail up to the campsite at about 15,000 feet, arriving there in three hours and 10 minutes. We were glad that we hadn't left earlier and had to just sit around in the cool wind. This also gave us hope that the supposedly five to seven hour hike to the summit should be less than that. We had also been told to expect temps as low as zero degrees so were thankful that it was warmer than normal. Helped by the cloud cover it didn't get below 30 degrees, so we were plenty warm in our 20 degree bags and my cheap Wensel tent.

After we got camp set up, Jason suggested scouting out the trail to the summit, as we planned on leaving about 5:00 in the morning and weren't sure if we could find it in the dark. We easily found the trail and hiked up about 20 minutes to another campsite; the people there said they planned on starting for the summit at about 2:00 am. By the time we got back down to our camp, the wind had died down and it felt warmer, especially after hot chicken noodle soup with tuna, cheese and bread and some tea. I used my soda can stove, which worked fine, after removing the windshield; I guess it needed a bit more air at that elevation too. Our campsite neighbor, a Frenchman suffering from the altitude wasn't looking too good, we found out he didn't attempt the summit. We were still below the clouds so got a great view of Arequipa as the lights came on and the quarter moon illuminated Misti above us. By 7:00 pm we were in our sleeping bags, hoping to get a good night's sleep before the 4:00 am alarm.

Following a breakfast of instant oatmeal, we were on the trail at 4:45 in the morning, climbing by headlights, with very little trouble following the trail. We could see the lights of other climbers, which seemed a long ways above us. Again it was a fairly easy trail, not too much sand (unlike the trail from my previous attempt) and enough large rocks to make it interesting, but also harder to see the trail. By this time I was deeply regretting my forgetting my gloves as I hurriedly packed for the trip but Jason said his hands were warm enough and let me use his - thanks Jason!

About the time it got light, we caught up to two other groups that had started earlier but were climbing very slow. One of the guides asked if one of his team members could follow us up so Steve joined us, again a very good match as we were all climbing at the same slow steady speed, taking very short breaks every so often. We soon lost sight of those below us and never saw them again until we got back down to their camp; unfortunately they had to turn back and were not able to reach the summit. When we were about a half hour away, we could see a large group standing on the summit. They had gone up a shorter route on the backside; we met them later after they had explored the crater. We finally got some sunlight when we reached a saddle between the summit and the crater, which really felt good. We had been climbing up the dark side, away from the sun, which made it very cool but we were also treated to a great view of Misti casting a shadow over miles of landscape when the sun rose on the other side. At 8:55, after crossing a couple of small snow patches and a couple of sandy stretches, we were on the summit at 19,100 feet, four hours and 10 minutes from camp. We marveled at the huge iron cross, about 20 feet high that was up there. It was constructed in sections; each about three feet long. I couldn't have carried even one section up there. We were hoping that it had been helicoptered up so that weren't totally put to shame by the super humans it would have taken to carry all the pieces up there.

After taking a lot of pictures of the almost unreal landscape offered by the crater, black sand, light rocks and snow, and a few more of neighboring 19,925 foot Chachani, we went down to the saddle and ate a light snack. Both of us were feeling good, no altitude problems but to keep it that way we decided to forgo exploring the crater and headed back down. We didn't hire a guide for the climb but were fortunate that Marcio, my guide friend, went with us to the trailhead and pointed out the route up to us. Steve's guide explained the route back down to camp. No need to hike down, just go over to the dark gray sand slope and "ski" down that, lots of fun! We stopped at Steve's camp and left him there with his teammates who were packing up, and then continued on down. We made it down to our camp in about two hours; we would have made it faster except we stopped to take a lot of pictures of our fun descent! After a simple lunch (should have brought another package of soup), which finished all of our food except a little trail mix, we broke camp and headed on down. There was no rush because Lisa wasn't scheduled to meet us until 4:00 pm. We had expected on being at the summit about noon, instead we were back at camp by 11:00 am. After a couple of final photos at the trailhead, we decided to walk down the dirt road, getting almost to the highway before meeting Lisa and Marcio. That gave us plenty of time to talk about our next adventure, after they finish their trip. Of course Chachani is calling our names, there are also two 6,000 meter mountain peaks on the way to Cotahuasi where I live, Coropuna at 21,075 feet and Solimana at 19,985 feet. And then there is my plan for a two week bike ride, all between 9,000 and 16,000 feet.

Looking down on creation...

Vic Hanson is the founder of Adventure Cotahuasi Tours, which offers pre-planned and custom adventure travel tours in Cotahuasi Canyon and other areas of Peru. The camping spot Shivpuri, situated near Rishikesh offers a magical rafting experience to the tourists and is even rated as one of the best rafting destinations in the world. With good food, accommodation, adventure and relaxation, this place is quickly coming up as one of the most sought after tourist places in the country.

If one moves close to Kumaon and Garhwal in Uttarakhand then the adventure of trekking as well as rappelling doesn't stand far from him. Inside the itinerary designed for their adventure travel, many people find Mukteshwar as a best place to avail a thrilling rappelling experience. However, no option of camping is available at this place, but some well developed resorts are enough to ensure the comfort for tourists.

Manali in Himachal Pradesh has also emerged as a big name in the league of adventure travel with the options of para gliding, river rafting, skiing, rock climbing and valley crossing present in here. With the help of its snow covered high mountains and fast flowing river, Manali has managed to conquer the position of highly acclaimed sporting destination in the country.

Previously, people thought that there is no point in searching for a deadly adventure in India but, as the government is exploring new sporting destinations in the country, the dream of adventure travel is only getting bigger.

       Vxplor is an adventure group offers Corporate Outing, adventure trips, weekend trips, adventure events like sky diving, Rock Climbing, Rafting, Camping, Rappelling, Caving.

Read More : http://ezinearticles.com/

Rajasthan India Tour

Rajasthan Tours

Rajasthan is a land of maharaja's where tourists get chance to experience with royal livings, traditions and culture of Rajasthan peoples. You will notice each lady will put a packet of tissue on the table. It seems that this is an unspoken rule that everybody follows. So if next time when you are looking for seat, if you notice a packet of tissue on the table, it means that seat is taken and please don’t take the seat.
Banning of chewing gum

Chewing gum is banned in Singapore under the "Regulation of Imports and Exports (Chewing Gum) Regulations. It had increased the maintenance cost and also an ugly sight. If you think it is ok to bring chewing gum into Singapore for personal consume, you are wrong. Under the law, you are not allowed to do that.
Certificate of Entitlement (COE)

The Certificate of Entitlement (COE) is designed by our Singapore government to control the number of cars on the road. If you want to buy a new car in Singapore, you are required to bid for the right to own a car. You can either do it yourself or via the car agents. COE biddings start on the first and third Monday of the month

The five categories of COE:

*

Non-transferable categories:

* Category A : Cars (1,600cc and below) & taxis
* Category B : Cars (1,601cc and above)
* Category D : Motorcycles
* Transferable categories:
* Category C : Goods Vehicles and Buses
* Category E : Open Category

Singlish

Singlish or also know as Singapore English is a mixture of Malay, Hokkien and English. As a non-smoker, I can understand the motives, but in fact how effective it is. So far, among the many smokers that I had spoken to, it has little or no effect to them. But I still think that the intent is good and this is just one of the many ways to put the message across to smokers.
Singapore Sling

Singapore Sling is a cocktail that was invented by Ngiam Tong Boon for the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel in Singapore sometime between 1910 and 1915. That is unless you just have to have the extravagant vacation house and the best of everything. The reason for this kind of a home is that you are not, tied down to one location. You can take the travel trailer with you to any location you choose.

One great thing about one of these kinds of dwellings is that the entire family can come along. A park type mobile home will sleep 6 to 8 people easily. This kind of accommodations will easily fit most families with room left over.

Please remember that this is a portable shelter but it can be, made a stationary place of residence if needed. The park type travel trailer is not self contained therefore you must have a place to connect to electricity, water, and you may even need gas, or butane. A good used one can be, found for around 10,000.00 so it is affordable.

You will also need to be close to a washer and dryer, as the mobile home will probably not have these installed or a place to house the appliances. However, you can have all of the other comforts of living. You will be able to get a satellite hook up, and the television is usually included. The kitchen may be a bit smaller and you will not have a dishwasher.

Sometimes the refrigerator may be small as well on the other hand there is room for a full size refrigerator in most of these trailers. There is a-lot of storage space as well. You will probably have to pack light and use lite house ware to keep the weight of the overall trailer and contents down. You will also need a heavy or super duty truck in order to pull and move this type of park mobile home. A regular pick up truck will not be sufficient to pull this much weight.

Again this type of travel trailer is light weight, sleeps 6 to 8 people, and is movable these are just a few of the benefits of having this kind of a vacation home. As you can vacation, where ever you wish too. The drawbacks are the limited space for extras, and the fact that it is not self contained. The journey took us through the proudly standing sand dunes of Erg Chigaga, Morocco. An array of small to big sand mountains reaching as far as our eye can see.

The solitude of the trek was very relaxing and calming. It was a great mediation to think of nothing and become the center of the Universe. I followed the footsteps of my guide and his blue veil and blue djellaba leading our camels. He was a local Nomad boy that grew up in this forsaken region and seemed like he knew every sand dune, every curve of the desert.

Our camels were strong, beautiful and smelly. I suddenly had a great appreciation for these animals. They walk so gently; in slow pace rocking from one side to other. Without any complain they carry loads of heavy equipment, supplies and our food. As gratitude, I had fed them peels of my orange and carrots out of my cous cous.

I enjoyed the evenings so much, when the sun started setting down and temperature cool of. The desert at that time became like one flame of red color. All was red before the black pitch night with million of stars, strong and bright covered the night sky. I have never seen so many shooting starts, now I hope that all my wishes will come true!

At night our guide made campfire and prepared delicious diner for us. We have even baked our own bread in the sand. We passed the time before heading to sleep by listening to his singing and drumming, by talking about life, his, ours. The stories told will be remembered. One night a small group of local Nomads joined us. These people are the only people you might encounter on your journey though the Sahara desert. Their herds of animals and children look at your with interest. Their nomadic life might seem romantic and they greatly appreciate the help one another.

I love adventure and have explored our Earth a bit. I have ski in the Alps, climbed the Kilimanjaro mountain, dived in the Great Barrier reef, followed the road to Machu Pichu and I am proud to say that trekking of the Sahara Desert was so different to all these and so unique. It someway helps you reflect to your inner I.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Amanda_Cox

Horseback Riding Tours in Las Vegas Offer Fun For Everyone!

While searching for a western style adventure in Las Vegas, I found a great way to explore the old west was by horseback riding. Las Vegas horseback tour companies have a large variety of rides to choose from and with a click of a button I was able to reserve a saddle for the day. With my limited riding ability all my apprehensions went to the pasture after finding a company that could cater to my experience level.

I had a hard choice to make because of all the Las Vegas horseback trail rides available online, but eventually settled on a ride called the "Wild West Sunset Dinner Ride." I was sold after reading this ride included an authentic barbecue dinner around the campfire with a choice of steak or mesquite grilled chicken with baked potato, corn on the cob and rolls on the side. And for my sweet tooth a generous slice of homemade American apple pie for dessert. I was ready and booked for a Saturday evening.

Staying off the strip at the Hard Rock Hotel on paradise I was pleasantly surprised to find that hotel pickup and return was included in my package. Our driver was very friendly and the van was in good working condition. The 20 minute drive to the ranch was an experience all its own; the Mojave is absolutely stunning! Coming from the big city of LA it was awesome to see the wide open spaces of the desert. Upon arrival at the ranch we were greeted with smiles as big as Nevada. The ranch hands where very experienced and made every guest comfortable by matching the perfect horse to the rider's ability.

The 'Wild West Sunset Dinner Ride' takes you across the gorgeous Sandy Valley desert for a perfectly timed 1.5 hour ride. Just enough saddle time before the little fanny gets too sore! Returning from the ride we were directed to an authentic sized arena, and can you believe this; taught how to herd and pen cattle. This was a truly out of the movies. I think the name of the movie would be City Slickers? Yes! City Slickers! What an unbelievable experience!

Following the cattle penning and finally what I have been waiting for the entire evening - the authentic sizzling cowboy and cowgirl steak dinner. Our cook was amazing and served my steak medium rare just like I ordered and oh-my the apple pie! To top-off an already perfect evening we headed over to a cozy camp fire for marshmallow roasting and story telling before heading back to Las Vegas. Like the apple pie wasn't enough.

Trust me by taking a Las Vegas horseback tour by the end of the day you'll have something more than just your souvenirs to share with friends and family; you'll have a one-of-a-kind adventure to talk about for a life-time

Las Vegas horseback tours are not only great for single travelers like me, but could be just as fun for family group outings, corporate events and even that romantic getaway. Whatever the group size or riding experience, Las Vegas horseback tour companies can accommodate your needs.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Ruben_Villegas

12 Tips to Reduce Waiting Times at the Airport

So today I decided to share a lot of small tips to help you reduce waiting times at the airport. The more of these tips you follow, the more you increase your chances of waiting less time at airport security checkpoints. Here are some things you should do before you go to the airport:

1- Don't pack or bring forbidden items to the airport.

2- Place all your valuables such as jewelry, money, and laptops in your carry-on baggage. (And bring only what's necessary. I'm a big proponent of leaving jewelry behind, for example, and using credit cards instead of cash.)

3- Tape your business card to the bottom of your laptop, so it won't get mixed with somebody else's.

4- Any clothing, jewelry and accessories that contain metal will set off the airport metal detector. The same goes for keys, loose change in your pockets, metal belt buckets and so on.

5- Shoes that contain metal or thick soles/heels also raise doubts. If you wear these types of shoes, you will almost certainly need to take them off and put them back on, even if the metal detector does not alarm.

6- Firearms and ammo need to be declared to the airline, as well as placed in the checked baggage.

7- TSA-recognized locks are the way to go. Don't try to save money on this.

8- If you are a smoker, don't bring lighters of forbidden matches to the airport. Also remember that smoking is forbidden in the vast majority of the flights.

And now, some more things you should do at the airport, so your life will be easier:

9- Have your airline boarding pass and a government-issued photo ID handy at all times. No airport is the same, and you will likely need to show these documents twice or more until you finally board the plane.

10- All these items should go in your carry-on baggage: mobile phones, PDAs, MP3 players, keys, loose change, money clips, jewelry, metal belt buckles, and metal hair decorations.

11- Laptops and video cameras are to be placed separately, out of their cases, in bins provided at the security checkpoint.

12- The same goes for your coats, suits, jackets and blazers. And if you are carrying too many toiletries, you may also have to take them off your carry-on luggage and put them on another separate bin.

So, there you go. I hope you enjoy your flight and have a nice trip!

Diogo Slov invites you to visit TravelMoneyBelts.com -- where you can find out about all types of travel money belts and get some travel safety tips. Also take a look at BackpackingBackpacks.net, a review site for backpacking backpacks.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Diogo_Slov

How to Know When it is Time For a Vacation

There is a good chance everyone around you will realize the truths before you do. You might need a vacation and unless you take one, you will continue to be cranky, tired, and generally miserable to spend time with. If this sounds like you and your coworkers, family, and friends cringe when you walk into the room, it is probably time to take a couple of days or a week off, head to someone with different weather, different food, and difference scenery, and enjoy a getaway. If you feel your life is too stressful to take a break from, it probably means you need the break even more. If things are overwhelming, you fall into bed each night exhausted or you realize you are no longer excited to greet a new day, it is time to plan a vacation. There are plenty of options ranging from luxurious foreign getaways to simple, inexpensive trips. You can look into timeshare rental if you would like a place to escape to on the regular basis. A lot of websites sell timeshare space and if you would like a more permanent chance to getaway, this may be your best choice. These accommodations are available all over the world, so know your choices are not limited if you choose to go this route.

If you prefer something on the more temporary basis, consider booking a stay at a hotel that features a variety of recreational activities. There are resorts all over the country and around the world that offer packages that appeal to all interests. Instead of choosing a destination, choose an activity. Then conduct a search on the resorts that offer deals on a few days enjoying this activity. Do you love outdoor adventure sports, or are you an avid golfer? There are plenty of places that combine food, lodging, and discounted opportunities to do any of these things. Are you thinking more along the lines of a relaxing girl's getaway where you can shop and visit a spa? Numerous hotels have spas located right on the premises and they can provide you with everything you need for a relaxing weekend or more.

If you want to really feel as if you are away from the daily grind, consider booking yourself or your family on a cruise. Cruises range from romantic island getaways to weeks filled with family fun. You can even go on themed cruises that cater to those with special interests. Best of all, cruises are far more flexible than they used to be. There are no longer pushy cruise directors forcing you to participate in shuffleboard tournaments or line dancing classes. However, if you want to do these activities, or a million other ones, you can probably find the opportunity on board a modern cruise ship. You will even have the opportunity to book additional time in the countries or on the islands you visit. This is a great way to explore and unwind. If you feel the time is right for a vacation getaway, take some time to decide what will work best for you.

Article Source:  http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Connor_R_Sullivan
